W2 and 1099 reporting are a necessary evil of doing business. Most of my clients have several W2s and 1099s to file each year. They head over to the local office supply store and purchase the 25-item package of W2 and 1099 forms. But what if you are a small business and only have a few employees and or contractors? Paying $50 for a package that you don't need seems kind of silly, yet the IRS wants us to use scannable forms. I suspect that you could probably walk into an IRS office and pick up the blank forms. But I've found a better way. You can order black W2s and 1099 forms directly from the IRS.
