Here is a link to a news story in today's LA Times. It discusses the unemployment rate in CA and some of the reasons that it is so high. California lost a lot of jobs in the housing sector as well as the mortgage sector. Those jobs are probably gone for a good long while. Only Nevada has a higher unemployment rate of 12.9%.
This graphic was in Tuesday's IBD (Investor's Business Daily). It does a very good job of showing the link between the performance of economic indicators and the market index. I've never seen a better graphic showing the relationship.
