QuickBooks Enterprise

Greetings from Orlando

The Mobile CFO crew (Mary, June and Tomi) are in Orlando to attend Intuit ISP Summit. Intuit brings us all in one place to show us all of the latest features and to get us excited about QuickBooks 12. Usually I bring a healthy dose of skepticism, but there are some major changes to this edition that I think will really help people.

If you call for assistance, be patient with us.  We'll be out of the office until Thursday.

QuickBooks Enterprise 12 Advanced Inventory is worth a Look

Intuit has done a fantastic job of adding features to the advanced inventory module. For the first time ever, you can now choose FIFO as an inventory method. BE CAREFUL, if you make the change, it changes your past history, so it is strongly recommended that you start a new company file if you plan to switch to FIFO. If you are intending on adding advanced inventory, please contact me before you try to implement the solution. There are some choices that need to be made (ie. FIFO changing past transactions) that could impact your financials in a negative way. Ask questions and get help.

View All Your Open Windows in QuickBooks

It is easy to open multiple windows in QuickBooks. When working on a project, it is easy to have 2-5 windows open. It is a pain to go back and forth, trying to find all you open windows, so you redo your report and now you have more open windows.

STOP THE INSANITY.  Simply choose to open the "view open windows" option under the "View" command.  That will open a small window on the left-hand side of the screen.  It acts as a small window manager. allowing you to toggle between open screens.  Give it a try, it will make QuickBooks a little easier to manage.

Materials Processing Corporation

Problem:

Materials Processing built their accounting system based upon Microsoft Office Accounting and Microsoft just announced that they were no longer supporting the product. Located in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Materials Processing Corporation is an electronics dismantler who takes old or broken electronics and gives them new life; either through the component parts or through resell at their restore stores. In September 2010, MPC engaged Mary to help them convert their Microsoft Accounting System to QuickBooks Enterprise. Things went so well that they converted their two retail stores to QuickBooks Point of Sale in the spring of 2011.

Solution:

QuickBooks 2012 First Look!

The embargo of secrecy is now lifted and I can give you guys some first thoughts on the new 2012 QuickBooks.

First and foremost, Inventory capabilities has been greatly enhanced. FIFO and Serial OR Lot tracking is now an option!!! That will mean a lot to some people who need those options. In QB 2012, Inventory is elevated to customer and vendor status with its own Center. Intuit spend a whole lot of time add capabilities to the inventory center. In addition to FIFO and Serial or Lot, you can add images to the inventory profile and do automatic price markups (based upon cost).
