Do Not File your Sales Tax Return with QB 2009 R9!

I have just been informed by Intuit that sales tax reports may not be working correctly if you are using QB 2009 R9. R9 is the update that Intuit asked us to do earlier this month. It is a major update that has caused a bunch of headaches.

To solve the sales tax problem, Intuit is releasing R10 Wednesday December 16th at this link:

You can download the patch beginning December 16th or you can wait until the automatic update runs on the 17th.

But PLEASE do not file any sales tax returns until you can verify (using f2) that you have upgraded to R10. Of course you can always just upgrade to QB 2010 and avoid this problem all together.

QuickBooks R9 is quite the bear!

I'm hearing from my client base about the difficulty in applying the new R9 release. First of all, understand that Intuit made some changes to the datebase structure. That is why each client AND the database server manager must be updated. The easiest thing that I have seen is to download the exe file and then update the server computer. Make sure that everyone is out of the company file, close the database server manager and then run the exe file.

Once the patch is completed, the administrator will need to update the company file. Just log in as the admin and accept the update.

Congratulations to my friends at Propelware for the 2010 Awesome Add-on award from the Sleeter Group. They do a very good job connecting outside databases to QuickBooks. In fact, Joe Dwyer has worked for Intuit in the program development area so he is very familiar with the QuickBooks back-end.

If you ever need an outside database to interact with QuickBooks, consider Autofy.

QODBC Version 10.0 Released

New Features in QODBC Version 10.0
Greatly Improved Performance

With QODBC Version 10.0 a new data importing technology has been added to QODBC resulting in faster initial data reads and subsequent queries than previous editions of the driver. Initial optimization of data has been benchmarked at up to a 30% reduction in load time.

If your QuickBooks company file is on the large side, this one feature will save you a lot of time!

Better Threading Design

Flexquarters has done quite a bit of improvements on QODBC. QODBC now has a single thread engine that allows multiple application threads to communicate with QuickBooks on a single thread. This which will help applications such as Microsoft SQL Server perform better and produce fewer errors.

Easier Operations

New in version 10.0 is a tray icon, which allows you to see that QODBC is performing operations and your machine is actively using QuickBooks. From this menu you can open tracing display windows, see what database and tables are being queried, see if QuickBooks is responding properly, and stop runaway queries.

Better SQL Support

QODBC version 10.0 adds new SQL Syntax our customers have been asking for such as UNION statements and CASE statements. Also added is support for QuickBooks SDK 9 and US Multi-Currency support.

MIsys SBM Shop Floor Control Named a 2010 Awesome Add-on

I told you guys that this program was good! Now the Sleeter group has named the shop floor control add on as a 2010 awesome add on. I've seen a demo and it is all that it is cracked up to be. It brings enterprise-level sophistication to the small business manufacturing world.
